Early Birds Get Extra American Legion Benefit

By Gary Cooper
American Legion Posts throughout New Jersey are holding an early bird membership drive through Labor Day.  Eligible veterans who join now will get the rest of 2014 and all of 2015 included in their membership fee.
The American Legion, chartered by Congress in 1919, is the nation’s largest wartime veterans service organization. It is committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities; advocating patriotism and honor; promoting strong national security; and devotion to our fellow service members and veterans. Our continued success depends upon the involvement of our veteran community.
The benefits to eligible veterans, reservists and active duty personnel for joining are many, and may include reduced rates on hall rentals; assistance with entitlement issues; participation in a variety of post sponsored events; and involvement in community activities such as Boys State, children’s coloring contests, scholarships, American Legion baseball, Boy Scouts, programs for hospitalized veterans, hosting Memorial and Veterans Day services, and many others.
Through the American Legion, members receive discounts on hotels, car rentals, eyeglasses, computers, the ability to participate in members-only insurance and prescription plans, and a subscription to The American Legion Magazine and New Jersey Legionnaire newspaper. In addition, members are welcome at other American Legion posts worldwide.
