– Talk to shed light on history of the Lenape

The Middlesex County Cultural and Heritage Commission will offer a lecture titled “Celebrate the History and Heritage of the Lenape People” 2 p.m. July 19 at East Jersey Olde Towne, 1050 River Road, Piscataway.

Guest lecturer Claire Garland, director of the Sand Hill Indian Historical Association, will cover the history and heritage of Lenape communities found in the northeastern region of the United States. The societal changes that took place as a result of European-Lenape interactions also will be discussed.

East Jersey Olde Towne is a fully accessible site. An Assistive Listening System is available and will be in use during the program.

The program is funded in part by the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders, the Middlesex County Cultural and Heritage Commission, the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and the New Jersey Historical Commission, a division of the Department of State.

– Jamesburg seniors plan trips to casino

Jamesburg Senior Citizens will host a trip to the Taj Mahal casino in Atlantic City on July 28.

The cost is $25 per adults 21 and older. Checks should be made payable to the Jamesburg Seniors.

The package includes $25 in slot play.

Sign-in begins at 10 a.m. The bus will leave at 11 a.m. sharp from the Jamesburg Senior Center, 139 Stevens Ave.

Future trips are scheduled for Aug. 25, Sept. 22, Oct. 27, Nov. 24 and Dec. 15.

– Spaces available at Indoor Rummage Sale

The Monroe Township First Aid Squad will hold its Indoor Rummage Sale July 26 at the First Aid Building, 47 Monmouth Road, in Mill Lake Manor.

Private vendors are sought. To reserve, interested individuals should email monroe1staidrummage@gmail.com and leave their name, address and phone number. Cost is $15 per vendor space. All money collected from vendor-table fees will benefit the squad.

– Youth invited to free lunch and movie

First Reformed Church of South River, 42 Thomas St., off Main Street, will offer its free Movie and Lunch Wednesdays 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. through Sept. 3.

Individuals ages 18 and under, especially those who find themselves without the nutritional help they usually receive through their schools, are welcome.

 – Outdoor movies continue at church

The First Reformed Church of South River, 42 Thomas St., off Main Street, is hosting a free Summer Outdoor Movie Series. All films are shown at 8 p.m.

The remaining schedule is as follows: July 26, Disney’s “The Muppets”; Aug. 9, “The Lego Movie”; Aug. 23, “The Empire Strikes Back.”

Admission is free of charge. Guests should bring a chair; extra chairs will be available. Popcorn, candy, soda and hotdogs will be offered for purchase.

– Digital-photography series on tap at library

“Getting to Know Your Digital Camera,” the first in a three-part series of digital-photography classes, is set for 6:30-8 p.m. July 22 at the Sayreville Public Library, Washington Road.

Guest presenter will be New Jersey photographer Walter Choroszewski. The series, open to ages 12 and above, is sponsored by the Friends of the Sayreville Public Library.

Part 2 in the series, “I Took the Shot … Now What?,” is scheduled for Aug. 12. Part 3, “Photo Tips for Better Pics,” will be presented Aug. 26.

Interested individuals may sign up for one or all classes; however, attendance at all three is recommended.

– Registration open for VFW 5K Run/Walk

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 133 will sponsor its third annual 5K Run/Walk fundraiser beginning at 9 a.m. July 27 at the post home, 485 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick, behind University Radiology.

Registration fee is $25 online at www.jerseyrunner.com before July 18, $30 after that date. Event-day registration will begin at 7:30 a.m.

– Used clothing drive to benefit scholarships

The Middlesex County 200 Club will sponsor its Used Clothing Collection 9 a.m.-2 p.m. July 20 at the Middlesex County Fire Academy, 1001 Fire Academy Drive, Sayreville.

Proceeds from the drive will support the club’s college scholarships for children of fire department, police department and emergency medical service personnel.

Merchandise sought includes men’s and women’s wearable and usable clothing, belts and handbags; bedding, curtains and towels; shoes (bag separately); stuffed animals and soft toys; hard toys (maximum size 24 inches by 24 inches); luggage and small rugs.

All donated items should be placed in tightly tied large plastic bags. Merchandise also may be put inside used luggage. Toys should be placed inside 24-by-24 inch boxes.

– Luau to support youngster’s treatment

A Luau Buffet fundraiser for Zachary Nemeth, a child with multiple disabilities, is set for 2 p.m. July 20 at Elks Lodge No. 2370, 21 Oakmont Ave., East Brunswick.

The buffet menu will include Kahlua roast pork (pulled pork) with a variety of sauces; Huli-Huli grilled chicken; teriyaki beef; vegetable fried rice; sweet potato casserole; grilled marinated summer vegetables; cabbage salad; Hawaiian rolls; chicken nuggets and fries (optional for children only); a hot-dog bar (served outside); and desserts including guava cake, coconut cake with mango sauce, chocolate Kahlua cake, banana pudding, Hawaiian cake, a cookie assortment, watermelon and other assorted fruit.

The band AlterEgo will perform outside on the patio by the lake; guests should bring lawn chairs. DJ Jim Milner will offer music indoors; seating will be provided.

Cost is $18 for adults, $6 for youngsters ages 4-10; children ages 3 and under will be admitted free of charge.
