MANVILLE: Debit card reportedly used fraudulently

Polilce blotter, July 7-13

A woman came into Manville police headquarters at 9:36 a.m. July 7 to report that someone had used her husband’s debit card in New York to make fraudulent purchases totaling $541.49.
— A Manville man came to headquarters at 4:52 p.m. July 7 and said he had visited a website that said he had looked at child pornography over the Internet and locked his phone. The website said his phone could be unlocked if he paid a fee over the Internet. Police told him this was a scam and to contact his mobile phone carrier to unlock the phone.
— A Huff Avenue man said at 10:29 a.m. July 8 that a family member had been taking money from his mother’s bank account without permission. The man said he has power of attorney over the account and said he felt the withdrawals constituted theft. The prosecutor’s office was contacted and advised it was a civil matter.
— A North Street man said a North 5th Avenue neighbor was on his porch provoking an altercation at 9:14 p.m. July 8 and trying to open the door. He didn’t answer. Later he went to the man’s residence and told him not to return.
— At 11:06 a.m. July 9 a woman reported finding one hypodermic syringe in her flower bed on Brooks Boulevard. Police took it and logged into evidence for destruction.
— At 9:02 p.m. July 9 a North 8th Avenue woman said she was getting phone calls labeled as from Jamaica with a man saying he wanted to talk to the husband. The caller made lewd comments and said it was scam, police said.
— A man came to headquarters at 1:10 a.m. July 10 to report that about $5 worth of loose change was taken from his vehicle between 6:30 p.m. on July 9 and 6:50 a.m. on July 10 on Huff Avenue.
— A North 9th Avenue woman said that another woman who lived nearby had come to the steps of her house at 3:08 p.m. July 10 and gave her an obscene gesture. No one was home at the address when police checked. The incident was put on the record.
— A Sidorske Avenue man said a sprinkler had been smashed into pieces between 7:30 and 8:15 a.m. July 11 and he thought his neighbor did it. Officer Joseph Buda was able to fix the sprinkler and make it work.
— A caller at 10 p.m. July 11 said he had been thrown out of Foxtail’s Lounge on South Street by a bouncer for "no reason." The bouncer said the man was causing problems and would not leave. Parties were advised of their right to sign complaints. As per its policy, Foxtails told the man he was no longer welcome inside of the bar.
— A homeless man, 46, was found sleeping on a couch in front of an auto body shop on North Main Street at 9 a.m. July 12.The rescue squad took him to Robert Wood Johnson Somerset hospital.
— A Plainfield woman came to headquarters to report a lost dark brown Coach brand wallet, valued at $60 and containing $40 in cash and credit and debit cards, at the Reading Cinema on July 11 between 8:30 and 9:45 p.m.
— Marina Bidzinashvili, 60, of Manville was charged with shoplifting items valued at $40.89 at Walmart at 1:48 p.m. July 12.
—  A woman came to headquarters at 4:19 p.m. July 12 to report she had lost her Samsung Galaxy S4 cell phone, valued at $500, somewhere between the Robert Wood Johnson Somerset hospital and the Walmart in Manville. It was entered into the national crime computer.
— Hillsborough police said they were going to file a missing person for a 78-year-old man who left his house at 1:30 p.m. July 12. He wears a cowboy hat and walks with a cane around Walmart and the high school in Manville and back to his home in Hillsborough. Police cars were advised. He returned home that night.
— Casey H. Giles, 35, of Bridgewater was charged with shoplifting $97.20 worth of merchandise from Walmart at 3:27 p.m. on July 13. She was released on recognizance.
— An employee at the Retro Fitness pre-sale center in the Marketplace Mall at 114 North Main St. reported the theft on an Insignia tablet, valued at $179.99, at 3:50 p.m. July 13.
— Patrols saw three juveniles on the roof of the former Arby’s restaurant on North Main Street at 5:19 p.m. July 13 Sunday. They were sent on their way.
— Patrols reported the theft of copper wire for a welder at 5:24 a.m. July 14 Monday from a truck on Huff Avenue. The wire was valued at $500.
— An elderly woman called police at 5:50 a.m. Monday and said she hears a hissing sound but had no idea what it was. Police responded and told her it was her refrigerator running and there were no problems.
