CRANBURY — Township police issued a Nixle alert Wednesday, urging motorists to avoid the intersection of County Route 535 and Dey Road due to a serious motor vehicle accident that flipped one vehicle and injured several people.
According to Chief of Police Rickey Varga, Christopher Malecki, 32, of South Plainfield, was traveling northbound on Route 535 in his 2009 Ford Escape at approximately 1:10 p.m., when he attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Dey Road.
While proceeding to turn, Mr. Malecki’s vehicle was struck by a southbound 2006 Kia Sorrento, operated by Edna Dailey, 44, of East Windsor. The force of the collision caused Ms. Dailey’s Sorrento to overturn before coming to a stop, Chief Varga said.
The Cranbury Fire Department and First Aid Squad both responded to the scene and assisted in removing Ms. Dailey from her vehicle, according to Chief Varga. She was treated at the scene.
The First Aid Squad transported Mr. Malecki to the University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro for treatment, Chief Varga said.
Of the three passengers in Mr. Malecki’s vehicle, Priscila Demorais, 24, of Brazil, and Mark Ostroski, 33, of East Windsor, were also taken to the Plainsboro hospital.
Chun Tso, 46, of East Windsor, was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. According to Chief Varga, none of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening.
Mr. Malecki was issued summonses for improper turning, careless driving and failure to maintain lane, according to Chief Varga.
