MONROE — Police arrested a man on July 11 that they believe robbed the TD Bank on Prospect Plains Road last Thursday morning, police said in a press release.
William H. Howcott, 45, of Freehold Township in Monmouth County, turned himself in to Monroe police after police said they identified him.
The bank robbery was reported at 8:47 a.m., according to police.
A white male subject described as being 5-foot, 6 inches tall with a thin build and olive skin, wearing a dark-colored baseball cap with a New York Jets logo, an orange T-shirt with the Carhart logo on the left breast pocket over top of a long sleeve dark shirt and dark sweat pants with white stripes along the legs entered the bank and approached the teller.
Police said he handed the teller a note and demanded money.
The teller complied, and after receiving an undetermined amount of cash, the man left the bank on foot heading west on Prospect Plains Road.
Police said a weapon was not displayed during the robbery.
Mr. Howcott was charged with one count of robbery and was lodged at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick in lieu of $75,000 bail with no 10 percent option, police said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sgt. Keith Saloom with the Monroe Township Police Department at 732-521-0222, extension 178, or the Newark office of the FBI at 973-792-3000.
