Brettell is new CHS vice principal

The Hopewell Valley Regional Board of Education, which recently accepted the retirements of many teachers and other school staff, approved the hiring of multiple new employees at its July 14 meeting.
Appointed vice principal of Central High School was Scott Brettell at an annual salary of $99,885.
Mr. Brettell comes to Hopewell Valley from the Mercer County Technical Schools — Assunpink Center, where he has served as the supervisor of secondary education at the Health and Science Academy for the last two years.
He also served as the district’s test and anti-bullying coordinator.
Before becoming the supervisor of secondary education at the Health and Science Academy, Mr. Brettell was a technology teacher for four years at Robbinsville High School, where he taught pre-engineering in the Project Lead the Way program.
The new vice principal has a bachelor’s degree from The College of New Jersey and a master’s degree from Rider University.
"He brings with him administrative experience as well as a strong background in technology," said a district spokesman Tuesday.
Mary Liotta was appointed school nurse for Stony Brook Elementary at $54,149 annually.
Working as a school psychologist at Stony Brook Elementary and Toll Gate Grammar will be John Kowalcyk, at an annual salary of $54,509. The appointment of Mr. Kowalcyk, who has a master’s degree, is a leave of absence position.
Lauren Conway was appointed a speech/language specialist at Bear Tavern Elementary. Ms. Conway, who has a master’s degree in her field, will make $61,256 annually.
Appointed a learning disabilities consultant at Toll Gate was Michele McKeon, who will work ¾ time and earn $52,192 annually. Ms. McKeon also has a master’s degree.
Christine Schenk was appointed a speech/language therapist at Hopewell Elementary. Ms. Schenk, who has a master’s, will earn $55,960 annually.
Laura Archer was appointed assistant school district business administrator at an annual salary of $82,000.
New teachers appointed at the meeting included:
— Rafael Fleisher, at Hopewell Elementary, at $52,442. This is a leave of absence position.
— Also appointed was Kristen Bruning, who will teach math at Central High School for $50,789 annually.
— William Smith was appointed social studies teacher at the high school, at an annual salary of $62,577.
— Helen Corveleyn was appointed as a teacher at Hopewell Elementary at an annual salary of $61,572.
