SOUTH BRUNSWICK: Town to host 31st National Night Out

Several local police departments will be participating in National Night Out on Aug. 5 as they join thousands of other communities across the nation to heighten crime awareness and enhance community relations.
The South Brunswick Police Department will host its 31st annual "National Night Out" celebration from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Rowland Park which is located on Broadway Road near Rowland Road.
The introduction of National Night Out, "America’s Night Out Against Crime", in 1984 began an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities. Usually held during the first week of August, National Night Out now involves more than 37.8 million people and 16,124 communities from all fifty states, U.S. Territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide.
A record setting crowd attended last year’s event.
The 2013 National Night Out Celebration received top honors in the State for towns with 15,000 to 49,999 population. This year promises to be bigger and better than last year, according to organizers.
"National Night Out is one of the largest community events in the Township each year," South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond J. Hayducka said. "It offers a great opportunity for the community to come together with the police to recognize the success of our partnership. The event celebrates the ongoing commitment to make our community a better place to live. "
The 2014 event will have rides and attractions for the kids, with games and prizes for children and adults alike.
Free hot dogs, soda, chips, ice cream, and popcorn will be available. Radio station WMGQ will be broadcasting live from this event.
Displays from the township police and fire departments, first aid squads, and more will be present.
The South Brunswick Township Municipal Alliance will once again be sponsoring its Community Unity Pavilion at National Night Out with displays from many local community-oriented organizations.
This is a free event and helps South Brunswick Township residents and police officers join together to help deter crime.
People are encouraged to car pool to the event.
