LAMBERTVILLE: Scam nicks city resident for $180, bank account ID

Lambertville police reported an apparent scam. A 61-year-old city resident reported July 23 she had been contacted by a person representing the "U.S. Federal Government" stating that she had received a grant for $10,600. The caller indicated the victim just had to send $180 via Money Pak to pay for federal taxes on the grant. After the victim sent the $180, the victim was then advised to send another $480 to pay for state taxes. The victim provided her bank account number so the money could be transferred.
The call was determined to be a hoax and had originated from out of the country. Citizens are reminded to be wary of any unsolicited telephone calls promising cash awards, grants and lottery winnings, especially when asked to pay for the money allegedly won. Please report any suspicious incidents.
A painting valued at $2,695 was reported stolen from G. Evans Ltd. store on North Union Street on July 25. The 24-by-32-inch painting was reportedly taken sometime in the past month. The painting depicted two partially clothed women dancers and was titled "Dancer Painting." Detective Michael Miloszar is investigating.
Timothy Yarborough, 37, of Morrisville, Pa., was arrested for driving under the influence on July 27.
Patrolman Michael Gramlich stopped Mr. Yarborough on Route 29 at 1:19 a.m. after he was allegedly seen traveling 80 mph in a 45 mph zone. Mr. Yarborough was determined to be under the influence of alcohol and arrested. He was also charged with speeding, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane and failure to keep right. He was later released with a pending court date.
Steven Reichenberg, 29, of Morrisville, Pa., was arrested for drug possession on July 22.
Officer Sharon Polyak said she located Mr. Reichenberg passed out in his vehicle on Route 29 at 1:30 a.m. He was reportedly determined to be under the influence of narcotics and was found to be in possession of heroin.
Mr. Reichenberg was charged with possession of CDS and being under the influence of CDS. He was lodged in the Hunterdon County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bail.
A 17-year-old Pineville, Pa., boy was charged with possession of a fraudulent driver’s license as a result of an incident at Walker’s Wine and Liquors on Bridge Street on July 24. The teen had presented a Maryland driver’s license indicating he was 21, allegedly so he could buy a bottle of alcohol. The store clerk became suspicious and requested another form of ID, at which point the teen fled, leaving the fraudulent ID behind.
The juvenile was identified and charged. He was released to a parent with a pending court date. Patrolman Michael Gramlich investigated.
Clayton Boering, 47, of Bryn Anthyn, Pa., was arrested on a warrant following a motor vehicle stop on July 22.
Lt. Robert Brown stopped Mr. Boering on Route 179 at 12:30 p.m. for speeding and was found to face a warrant issued by the city for failure to appear on prior traffic charges. Mr. Boering posted $273 bail and was released after being given a summons for speeding.
