Fundraiser helps veterans give back to community

The Veterans of Foreign Wars will hold its sixth annual family picnic on Saturday, Aug. 16, from noon-5 p.m. at Post 2290 on Washington Avenue. The picnic will bring the veterans and community together for an afternoon of good food, socializing and fun.
The funds raised from the picnic will help the veterans, the post itself and helps with the community and the programs that they run.
Renny Dilts, a VFW member and picnic organizer, said, "We are trying to get the families and the community out." Mr. Dilts, along with others, will help cooking up the favorites — hamburgers and hot dogs, sausage and peppers, fried chicken, corn, salads — for all to enjoy. Clams will also be available for an extra charge of $5 dozen.
There will be face painting, games, a horseshoe tournament and music and entertainment by a DJ.
Advance tickets are $15 for adults, $7.50 for kids 6-12 and under 6 are free and can be purchased at the VFW or by calling 908-725-2290, or at the picnic for $20 for adults and still $7.50 for kids. Clam tickets can also be repurchased. The picnic will be held rain or shine; it will be moved indoors in case of inclement weather.
"Miss it and you will regret it," said member Jim Wisor.
