FREEHOLD — Residents are invited to come out and meet officers from the Freehold Borough Police Department and enjoy a night of family fun as the department hosts its National Night Out event on Aug. 5.
National Night Out will be held from 5-9 p.m. in the Monmouth County Hall of Records Annex parking lot, Main Street, according to Detective John Reiff.
Reiff said all activities will be free to guests.
National Night Out is designed to heighten crime prevention awareness and drug prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in local anti-crime programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and send a message to criminals to let them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back against crime.
The police department has participated in National Night Out for more than a decade.
Local business operators make donations to support National Night Out. Reiff said Nestle USA, Jerseyville Avenue, has once again provided significant financial support for the event. He said Party Fair, Route 9, Freehold Township, has donated items to support the event.
Inflatable rides from Party Perfect, Freehold, will be set up for youngsters to enjoy. Music will be presented by DJ Cori. A police car, a fire truck and other first responder vehicles will be on display.
Reiff said representatives of civic organizations and businesses will be on hand to let guests know about the products and services they offer to the community. New York Life will provide identification kits for children at the event.
