The State Police Uniform Crime Report shows a reduction in crime in the township from January to May 2014 when compared to January to May 2013.
Mayor Kelly Yaede said Hamilton Township’s proactive efforts to improve public safety were a success during the months of January to May 2014, as police data shows an 11 percent drop in the overall crime during the same time period from January to May 2013.
Overall, rapes dropped 25 percent, assaults dropped 17.1 percent, burglaries dropped 21.8 percent and larceny dropped 19.4 percent, according to the Hamilton Police Division. The instances of violent crimes dropped 8.8 percent and non-violent crimes dropped 17.5 percent, according to police.
On a monthly basis, the Hamilton Police Division must submit crime rate data to the New Jersey State Police for its annual Uniform Crime Report.
”I strongly believe that the efforts of our officers and detectives, as well as pro-active strategies, have led to a decrease in crime,” Chief James W. Collins said, adding “our crime prevention program focuses on not becoming the next victim of a crime.”
To that end, the Community Policing Unit of the Hamilton Police Division offers a free confidential residential security survey to residents.
The Hamilton Township Police Division’s website (www.HamiltonNJ.com/Police), which was revamped in March along with the creation of an official Hamilton Township Police Division Facebook account (www.facebook.com/HamiltonPoliceDivision) and Twitter handle (@Hamilton_Police) was part of a comprehensive initiative spearheaded by Mayor Yaede to promote proactive outreach to and communication with residents to help improve public safety and promote anti-crime efforts and information. The Hamilton Police Division’s website offers additional information for residents to help keep every neighborhood in the community safe.
”The fact that crime continues to decrease in Hamilton Township following last year’s 5 percent drop in crime speaks volumes about our proactive approach to public safety and our dedicated police officers’ commitment in keeping our families and neighbors safe,” Mayor Yaede said. “Even in light of our township’s decrease in crime, I am asking our community to help us continue this positive trend by following the important safety tips on our police website that can help residents avoid falling victim to crime.”
The police division website features “Hamilton’s Virtual Neighborhood Watch” page, which includes many crime prevention links to help residents avoid falling victim to burglaries and various types of scams, as well as information on Hamilton’s Residential Security Survey program; police news feeds and alerts; a confidential online tip feature; links to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and New Jersey’s “Most Wanted” lists; a signup link for Hamilton’s Emergency Notification System, an online ticket payment feature, a link to report street light outages and direct links to the police division’s facebook page and Twitter handle.
