“World War I and the Rise of Military Communications” will be at 11 a.m. Aug. 1. Learn about Monmouth County’s unique contributions to the science and development of wireless communication during World War I.
“Family Fun — It’s Gonna Blow!” for children age 2 and up, with a parent or caregiver, will be at 11 a.m. Aug. 2. Enjoy volcano stories and making a craft. Registration is required.
“How to Start a Business the Right Way” will be at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 4. Learn how to define and evaluate ideas, understand marketing strategy requirements, identify options for funding and turn ideas into action. This program will be presented by Monmouth SCORE.
“Finger Spelling” for children age 3 and up will be at 11 a.m. Aug. 5. Children will learn how to spell their names and help tell the story of Peter Pan using American Sign Language. Registration is required.
“Terrariums” for children entering grade 6 and up will be at 6 p.m. Aug. 6. Create a little sanctuary by constructing a little garden in a jar. Bring a clear 32-ounce jar. Registration is required.
“English Conversation Classes” will be held on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. Aug. 6, 13, 20 and 27. Learn English to help one at work, home and in the community. Meet and speak with others who are learning English. All classes are free.
“Rocket Power” for children in grades K and up will be at 11 a.m. Aug. 7. Listen to some stories and make rockets that fly. Registration is required.
“Avoiding Identity Theft and Financial Fraud” will be at 2 p.m. Aug. 7. Learn the warning signs of financial fraud, how vulnerable one is to identity theft and what one should do if it happens. There will be an open discussion after the presentation to answer any questions.
“Bubble Trouble” for children age 3 and up will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 11. Discover the science of bubbles with a fun-filled, interactive show. Registration is required.
“Construction Junction” for children age 3 and up, with a parent or caregiver, will be at 11 a.m. Aug. 12. Listen to a story and build a straw sculpture. Registration is required.
“Stuffed Animals on Parade” for children age 2 and up, with a parent or caregiver, will be at 11 a.m. Aug. 14. Enjoy stories and a stuffed animal pet show. Registration is required.
“Book Discussion: ‘Big Brother’ by Lionel Shriver” will be at 10 a.m. Aug. 19 and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Aug. 20. When Pandora’s overweight brother, Edison, comes to stay, his eating habits and outsize personality lead husband, Fletcher, to issue an ultimatum.
“Using Essential Oils to Reduce Stress and Pain” will be at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 21. Gina Melillo, registered nurse and certified aromatherapist, will discuss a wide array of essential oils and explain how to use them to relax one’s mind and muscle aches. Natural alternatives to address stress and pain will also be discussed.
“Watercolors by Jean-Claude Hermann” will be at 2 p.m. Aug. 23. Meet Jean-Claude Hermann and view his exhibit in the library’s meeting room and lobby. The exhibit will run during August.
