Lambertville Sgt. Michael O’Rourke met with a Church Street resident Thursday, July 31, about a likely scam.
The sergeant met with a man who said he had advertised furniture for sale on "Craig’s List" and was contacted by someone identifying himself as Fred Peters. A price was negotiated for the sale. The victim received two money orders in the mail, then received an email containing a convoluted story about why Peters had to send the two money orders.
Peters requested the money orders be deposited and the victim send him back the difference using "Western Union." The address provided to the victim was in Africa. The victim recognized this as a scam and took no further action.
