Improvements to Stockton Borough’s public water system aim to enable the borough to identify contaminants in the water and take steps to remediate them.
The work is intended to be funded by a bond ordinance introduced by the Borough Council at its July 16 meeting, Borough Clerk Michele Hovan said.
The proposed ordinance is expected to be scheduled for a public hearing and adoption vote at the council’s next meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 11 at 7 p.m.
Adoption of the proposed ordinance, which was developed after consultations with Borough Engineer Dennis O’Neal, would authorize the borough to spend $50,000 for the improvements. As is typical of such measures in this state, a $2,500 cash down payment would be made on the work, with a municipal bond issuance covering the $47,500 balance.
Also at its July 16 meeting, Ms. Hovan said, the council authorized buying new radios for the borough fire department, based at 9 Mill St. Under state contract, $23,801 will be paid to Motorola Solutions, based in Schaumburg, Illinois, for the radios.
The borough has determined that a hydrant at the firehouse needs to be relocated. At the July 16 meeting, the council awarded an $8,450 contract to John Martin Excavating, of Flemington, to do that job.
