New Jersey American Water Crews are retiring old water mains that have served Manville as far back as 1930, and are installing new pipes in the borough.
More than 4,200 feet of six-inch, concrete and unlined cast-iron water mains will be replaced by eight-inch, cement-lined, ductile iron pipe.
The approximately $1.1 million in infrastructure upgrades are underway along the following streets:
— North 8th Avenue, from Brooks Boulevard to Dukes Parkway;
— South 21st Avenue, between Vermont Street and Camplain Road, and
— Williams Street, from Main Street to Railroad Place.
With the installation of the mains, New Jersey American Water customers will experience increased water flows, continued fire protection and more reliable water service. The water main improvements are part of the company’s multimillion dollar program to accelerate the renewal of water infrastructure that is reaching the end of its useful life in more than 100 communities across the state.
New Jersey American Water, a wholly owned subsidiary of American Water, is the largest investor-owned water utility in the state, providing water and/or wastewater services to about 2.5 million people.
