The East Brunswick Jewish Center, 511 Ryders Lane, is offering two new programs for teens in grades 8-12. Classes, which will meet 6:30-8:15 p.m. on Thursdays, are open to any Jewish students. They do not need to be members of the synagogue. Dinner is served each week, and students have the opportunity to socialize with their peers.
YAP, the Young Adult Program, gives eighth-10th graders a chance to practice social action through a series of mitzvah modules. In each three- to four-week module, students study Jewish texts for the history and meaning of each commandment. They then put theory into practice through community service projects with a local charity.
Students in 11th and 12th grades have the opportunity to Rap With the Rabbi and discuss issues of identity, ethics and how to navigate the world as a Jewish adult.
