A mother is accused of selling heroin from her apartment while her 1-year-old son was present, police said July 31.
According to a press release from police, Danielle, Zitowsky, 23, of the Royal Oaks apartment complex on Route 1 in Monmouth Junction was charged July 30 with possession of heroin, possession of marijuana, possession of prescription drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and second degree child endangerment after officers executed a search warrant on the apartment.
Police said they were investigating reports that Ms. Zitowsky was selling heroin from her home with her young son present, leading to a search warrant being issued in the case.
When police executed the warrant on the Maple Court apartment at around 8 a.m. July 30, detectives reportedly recovered heroin, marijuana, prescription drugs.
They also located the child inside the home during the search, police said.
Ms. Zitowsky was arrested and then lodged at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick on $50,000 bail, police said.
Police said State officials placed her son in the custody of a family member.
"The heroin problem knows no boundaries and getting this young child into a safe environment was paramount," Chief of Police Raymond Hayducka said in the release. "I want to thank the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office for their assistance with this investigation."
