Public school will arrange transportation for majority of Catholic students

A spokeswoman for Hillsborough schools said Wednesday that details have been worked out to allow for busing of the majority of Catholic school students to schools in Somerville and Raritan.
Parents of township Catholic school pupils have awaited word whether the Hillsborough public school district would provide busing to Somerville-area schools in the fall.
Kia Bergman from the school district said that busing will continue to Immaculata High School, Immaculate Conception elementary school in Somerville and St. Ann’s in Raritan. Families attending Christ the King School in Manville would receive aid in lieu of busing, as they have the past school year.
The district had said it was "exploring the impact that the decreased enrollment at non-public schools has on the per-pupil transportation cost that the district is required by state law to maintain and the options that are available."
Ms. Bergman knew no other details, she said, but thought it would be discussed at Monday’s Board of Education meeting at the Auten Road Intermediate School.
