MANVILLE: Farm market going strong

The Friday tradition observes its fourth year

By Mary Ellen Day, Special Writer
The Farmers Market, in its fourth year in bringing fresh fruits and vegetables to Manville, is going strong. . . Jersey Fresh strong.
The market is held on Fridays, rain or shine, from 1 to 6 p.m. until Sept. 26 on the Main Street sidewalks between Rosalie and North Orchard streets. It is sponsored by the Manville Business and Professional Association.
Local farmer Norz Farm of Hillsborough, with locally grown vegetables and fruits, baked goods, eggs and whatever is in season.
Norz Farm brings peppers, carrots, onions, tomatoes and corn just to name some. There are also fruits, homemade jams and pies. Shoppers looked for their fresh items and were very pleased. Marilyn and George Strauss came from a Somerset Canal walk and picked up some corn and pie.
First-timer Susan Sapinenza of Belle Mead came one Friday; she sometimes will go to the one in Montgomery that is on a Saturday.
"I haven’t had a chance to shop for fresh-grown Jersey veggies yet and I was happy to see that it was convenient here," she said. She bought green beans, tomatoes and potatoes.
Faithful Manville customer Jackie Malek comes every Friday and even came during a rainstorm.
"They have the greatest stuff, like farmers usually do," she said. "Everything that I have bought here has been awesome."
During this trip she bought peppers and was still shopping.
Manville residents Nicole Yanko and Linda Fasano were working the stand Friday. They work for the farm and enjoyed seeing so many familiar faces.
"Everyone appreciates having a fresh produce stand here," said Ms. Yanko — especially a local farmer, Ms. Fasano added.
Ms. Yanko said, "There are a lot of regulars who have come to the farm but now they enjoy it coming here."
