More than 70 alumni of Markham Place School in Little Silver pose in the same spot where the eighth-grade graduating class picture is taken each year. LITTLE SILVER — The Markham Place School reunion was a great success, with more than 170 people turning out to reunite with former classmates.
According to Diane Marshall Gradone, one of the event organizers, the reunion held July 26 included a tour of the grammar school — both the original building and the large, newer addition. B.J. Olsen, Maple Place teacher and alum, lead the tour. Festivities continued at the Nauvoo Grill in Fair Haven, where alumni from the classes of 1957-1983 gathered.
Originally planned for graduates from the 1960s and 1970s, the reunion was expanded after word got out on Facebook and through other outlets. The Little Silver Markham Place School reunion page on Facebook now has 500 members.
“The evening was filled with laughs, plenty of smiles and big hugs as we embraced each other and the special memories we shared growing up in such a unique time and place,” Gradone, a member of the Class of 1973, wrote in an email.
