A man who was driving to his Yardley, Pa., home from Philadelphia was charged with drunken driving and other violations after a police officer discovered him asleep in his 2014 Lexus, parked in the lot outside the Lawrence Township Police Department and Municipal Court building shortly before 2 a.m. Aug. 15.
Robert Devenney, 56, of Yardley, was charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving and improper parking after the police officer noticed that his car was parked sideways across three parking spaces and partially in the travel lane of the parking lot outside the Police Department building, said Chief of Police Mark Ubry.
The officer was leaving the police station building when he saw the car running and with its lights on, Chief Ubry said. And then he saw the man asleep inside.
The officer made several attempts to wake up the driver by blowing the horn on his patrol car, turning on the police car’s siren and flashing the lights on the patrol car, Chief Ubry said. When Mr. Devenney woke up and rolled down the window on the car, the officer smelled alcohol coming from the car.
