‘Sneak peek’ at schools: Community members, parents and students are invited to visit school of their choice, noon to 4 p.m. No formal program. Students must be accompanied by an adult. New student orientation will be held that day; invitations to new students will be forwarded by each school.

Elks barbecue: Manville-Hillsborough Elks 2119 will host annual clam bake and barbecue, 1-5 p.m., at the lodge, 1500 Brooks Blvd., Hillsborough. Rain date is Sunday, Sept. 7. Admission $35 in advance, $40 at door per adult and $15 for youngsters aged 10-17; children under 10 are free. Day includes music, door prizes, tricky tray and children’s activities. Church festival: Holy Ghost Orthodox Church on closure of Roosevelt for their annual ethnic food festival. The street will be closed between 6th and 7th avenues.

Slavic dinner: St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church holds monthly dinner, 4 to 7 p.m., St. Mary Parish Center, 1900 Brooks Blvd. $13 for adults (ages 9 and up) and $5 for children (8 and under). All-you-can-eat pirohi, stuffed cabbage, kielbasa and sauerkraut, mashed potatoes. A surprise entrée will be prepared by St. Mary’s chef John Pagano. Orders to go available. Flea market & craft show: Manville First Aid & Rescue Squad Auxiliary will hold an indoor/outdoor flea market and craft show from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the VFW hall, 600 Washington Ave. Vendors and crafters wanted.
