A collision involving a car and a pickup truck left three people injured last week after one driver allegedly failed to stop at a red light.
According to police, the accident occurred at 10:31 a.m. at the intersection of Route 130 south and Hornberger Avenue.
Melanie Mount, 33, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was driving a 2005 Suzuki Aerio and making a left turn from Hornberger Avenue onto Route 130 north when she was struck by Oscar Guerra, 27, of Trenton, who was driving a 1994 Toyota pickup truck in the left lane on Route 130 south, according to police. Israel Soto, 28, of Trenton, was the passenger in the pickup truck.
”Ms. Mount ran the red traffic light on Hornberger Avenue,” Capt. Brian Boldizar said on Tuesday. “The light on Route 130 was green.”
Florence Township Fire Department was called to the scene to assist one of the drivers.
”We were dispatched for a motor vehicle accident. It then was upgraded to a rescue assignment before we left the station by central communications,” said Chief Keith Scully of the Florence Township Fire Department in an email on Monday. “Ambulance 4081 arrived to find a two-vehicle multiple vehicle collision with one person trapped inside of her vehicle. The occupants were out of their vehicle upon arrival.”
The southbound and northbound left lanes of Route 130 were closed for approximately 40 minutes, he said.
”The extrication took approximately 15 to 20 minutes due to the damage of the vehicle,” he said. “There was heavy intrusion to the passenger compartment on the driver side of the vehicle.”
Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and were “rendered inoperable,” according to the police.
All parties involved were transported to the local hospital with non life-threatening injuries, Capt. Brian Boldizar said.
Ms. Mount was issued a motor vehicle summons for failure to observe traffic signal, Capt. Boldizar said. The accident remains under investigation, police said.
Chief Scully wants to remind drivers to “drive responsible and pay attention to traffic signals.”
The Florence Township Police Department, Florence Township Fire Department and EMS and Endeavor Emergency Squad responded to the scene to assist with the accident.
