SOUTH BRUNSWICK — A fire at a local warehouse went to two alarms Saturday as firefighters from five communities were called in to battle the blaze, police said.
The Monmouth Junction Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched at 11:13 a.m. to 925 Georges Road, the home of Nuvida Plastic Technology, Inc., for a structure fire, according to police.
Arriving firefighters and police officers discovered a working fire in the rear of the two-and-a-half-story warehouse.
Police said firefighters made an aggressive interior attack, which quickly contained the fire to a corner of the facility used to store plastic materials.
More than 60 firefighters responded to fight the fire, police said.
"The plastic material was stored in cardboard boxes on wood pallets which created a challenge to get to the seat of the fire," Monmouth Junction Fire Chief Scott Smith said. "There was extensive (work needed) to ensure there were no remaining hot spots."
Units responding to the warehouse blaze included the Monmouth Junction, Kendall Park, and Kingston Fire companies from South Brunswick, as well as firefighters from Brookview, Cranbury, Jamesburg and North Brunswick, police said.
The Little Rocky Hill and Franklin Park Fire companies stood by to cover the township while crews fought the fire.
Police said two firefighters suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene by the Monmouth Junction and Kendall Park First Aid squads.
All firefighters cleared the scene by 4:45 p.m., police said.
The fire is under investigation by the South Brunswick Township Fire Safety Bureau and the South Brunswick Police Department.
