BORDENTOWN CITY: City sizzles with deals during sidewalk sale

By Amy Batista, Special Writer
Farnsworth Avenue transformed into a mini circus during the annual Summer Sidewalk Sale.
”The sidewalk sale was started over 10 years ago to boost sales for the retail shops on Farnsworth Avenue during the quiet summer months,” said Rebecca Moslowski, owner of Rebecca’s Vintage Boutique and Consignments and chairperson of the event.
The Summer Sidewalk Sale was held Friday, Aug. 15 and Saturday, Aug. 16 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and featured family activities such as live music, clowns, face painting, popcorn and more both nights.
Ms. Moslowski noted 17 shops and galleries, six restaurants and four other businesses along Farnsworth participated in the event this year.
”The circus theme was developed to call more attention to the business section of town and to provide entertainment to encourage patrons to hang out in the area longer,” she said, adding that there were also magic shows and stilt walkers.
She noted that retailers typically sell clearance items at a “great bargain.”
Necessities for the Heart store had a sale on designer handbags and jewelry, advertising on its Facebook page that there would be 60 percent off a huge selection of retired Vera Bradley and Brighton jewelry, wallets and handbags.
Antique shops and galleries offered original art and collectibles at great prices, according to Ms. Moslowski.
Those who spent $20 in town earned a chance to spin the prize wheel located at Shoppe 202.
Ms. Moslowski said her favorite part of the event is the “wonderful turnout.”
”Seeing first time visitors to Bordentown having fun and getting great deals,” she said. “Bordentown City continually offers fun events to showcase our lovely city.”
Downtown Bordentown Association President Thomas Moyer, owner of Shoppe 202, encouraged people to visit www.downtownbordentown.com for more upcoming events.
