Let’s take a glance at local student-athletes who competed in collegiate sports this past spring season. This is the fourth installation in the series.
Ashley John and Jessica Wood, both graduates of Northern Burlington High School, were seniors on the roster of the Arcadia University (Glenside, Pennsylvania) softball team this spring. John, catcher/first baseman, played in 35 games and started in 34 of them for Arcadia. She had 15 hits, including a double, two RBIs and she scored five runs. She earned Middle Atlantic Conference Honor Roll honors with a 3.67 grade point average.
Wood, a pitcher/second baseman, started in all 44 games and had a .341 batting average. Wood had 47 hits, including 14 doubles and three home runs. She also had 32 RBIs and scored 23 runs. Wood was an All-Middle Atlantic Conference Second Team selection.
The Knights had an overall record of 21-23 with a mark of 9-7 at home.
Nico Belardo from Northern Burlington High School was a junior who played attack for the Gwynedd Mercy University (Gwynedd Valley, Pennsylvania). Belardo started in all 14 games for Gwynedd Mercy and led the team with 33 assists. He also posted 18 goals.
The Griffins tallied an overall mark of 8-6, with a record of 6-2 on their home field. In the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC), they went 4-2. They advanced to the semifinal round of the CSAC Tournament where they were defeated by Marywood University.
Tizana Hoggs from Northern Burlington High School was on the roster as a freshman midfielder for the Chestnut Hill College (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) women’s lacrosse team this past season. Hoggs started in all 17 games and posted two assists.
The Griffins had three victories on the season, all of which were earned in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.
Becky Graessle from Northern Burlington High School was a freshman midfielder/defender for the Elizabethtown College (Pennsylvania) women’s lacrosse program this spring. Graessle started in all 15 games for Elizabethtown and posted two assists.
The Blue Jays recorded one victory this past season, a 12-8 Landmark Conference triumph over the United States Merchant Marine Academy.
Morgan Pettit from Northern Burlington High School was on the roster as a senior who played attack for the Slippery Rock University (Pennsylvania) women’s lacrosse program this spring. Pettit started in 16 games and paced her team with 57 goals. She added 11 assists for Slippery Rock.
Slippery Rock had six overall victories, five of which they earned on their home field.
