The next meeting of the John S. Roebling Senior Citizens Society will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 3 at noon (note the time change) at VFW Post 8838 on Tenth Avenue in Roebling. The group meets the first and third Wednesday of each month. All interested seniors are welcome to attend. Light refreshments are served. The officers for the 2014-15 year were installed at the June dinner. They are President Jim Napolitan, Vice President Shirley Ramchak, Corresponding Secretary Simone Gadbois, Recording Secretary Stella Polyak and Treasurer Marge Miller. There will be a Saints Francis and Clare Altar Rosary Sunday Mass on Sept. 7 at 8 a.m. at Holy Assumption Church in Roebling. All Altar Rosary Society members are asked to recite the rosary at 7:30 a.m. and sit together for the mass. An installation of officers will take place after the service. There will be a general meeting at McGrath Hall on Sept. 9 at 6:30 p.m. Look for the Altar Rosary Society information insert in the Aug. 31 church bulletin, which will include the meeting schedule and information about the membership drive on Sept. 13-14, the food pantry, adopt-a-nun, and Monday night bingo.

A free home security program for seniors age 60 and over is being offered by the Burlington County Sheriff’s Department. Crime prevention specialists will install door locks, window locks and peepholes and will make sure homes have carbon monoxide detectors, smoke detectors and emergency interior lights. The fourth annual car, truck and motorcycle show will be held at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church on Sept. 20 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The church is located at the corner of West Second Street and Spring Street. There will also be a chili cook-off with a $5 donation for a table spot. Registration for the show starts at 8 a.m. and ends at 11 a.m. For early registration or more information, call Mike Potpinka at 609-351-5859. The registration fee is a $15 donation to St. Stephen’s.
The Florence Historical Society will hold an open house on Saturday, Sept. 20 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the old firehouse at 25 West Third Street. Artifacts, memorabilia, high school yearbooks and photographs will be on display. The “Images of America” book about Florence will be for sale as well as original coat racks from the Duffy School.
