LAMBERTVILLE: Local youth to unveil state line on bridge

The recently painted tri-color state line on the walkway for the New Hope-Lambertville Toll-Supported Bridge will be unveiled Aug. 28 by a 12-year-old Lambertville student who suggested the idea in a letter to the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission earlier this year.
Expected to be on hand for the event are Lambertville Mayor David DelVecchio, New Hope Mayor Lawrence Keller, Bridge Commission Executive Director Joseph J. Resta and other officials.
The official unveiling is scheduled for 3 p.m. near the midway point of the walkway on the six-span steel through-truss bridge that links the downtowns of the two river communities.
Commission maintenance personnel painted the state line on the busy walkway in conjunction with the bridge crossing’s 200th anniversary.
The original wooden covered bridge at the location was declared "ready for crossing" on Sept. 12, 1814.
The Lambertville Historical Society, New Hope Historical Society and Lambertville Station Restaurant and Inn are organizing a free community open house to mark the bridge’s bicentennial.
The event is to take place at the Lambertville Station Inn’s Riverside Ballroom between 1 and 3:30 p.m. Sept. 13.
