LAWRENCE: New recreation director is selected

Christine Lee, the former director of the Lawrence Community Center on Eggerts Crossing Road, has been named the new head of the Lawrence Township Recreation Department, according to Municipal Manager Richard Krawczun.
Ms. Lee will replace Steven Groeger, who is retiring after having served as the superintendent of recreation for 32 years. She will begin her new on Sept. 8, Mr. Krawczun said.
Ms. Lee, who lives in Princeton Junction, works for the Educational Testing Service on Rosedale Road in Lawrence Township. She is a community relations consultant at ETS’ Center for Advocacy and Philanthropy in the Office of the President at ETS.
She had formerly served as the director of the Lawrence Community Center on Eggerts Crossing Road. At the community center, which is managed by HomeFront, she was responsible for daily operations — including after school, educational and recreational programs.
"We have been extremely fortunate to observe and work with Ms. Lee since 2009, as the director of the Lawrence Community Center," Mr. Krawczun said. "Her success in guiding the improvements to the Community Center in the areas of management, facilities and programs is a testament to her abilities."
Mayor Cathleen Lewis said township officials "are excited to have Ms. Lee join our township in providing recreational opportunities for our residents. Her experience and enthusiasm are wonderful mix that will be a great fit for the position."
The Lawrence Township Recreation Department provides programs to meet the recreation and leisure needs of Lawrence residents, in addition to programs offered through the Office on Aging and special events.
