The Jersey Shore Golden Grand Prix has been golden for distance runner Andrew Brodeur.
The former state champion at Brick Memorial High School and star at Duke University has won every race that he has entered in the Grand Prix series this summer.
His latest triumph was in the Asbury Park 5K on Aug. 9. The former Mustang, who now calls Bethesda, Md., home, picked up his third win in as many tries and second straight at Asbury Park, posting a 15:43 mark on the looped circuit. Barnegat’s James Rivers and Holmdel’s Dan Barlev were second and third, respectively, with both getting a time of 15:53 (Rivers’ 15:52.65 was .12 ahead of Barlev).
Ocean’s Greg Lowing was fourth (16:08) and Matt Turplip of New York, N.Y., placed fifth (16:32).
Barlev and Lowing are getting training in for their college cross-country seasons. Barlev will be a freshman at Hofstra University, while Lowing is going into his sophomore year at Clemson University.
Rounding out the top 10 in the Asbury Park 5K were Nicholas Reid, Morristown (16:46); Andrew Dombrowiecki, Ocean (16:48); Dave Favorito, Galloway (16:59); Alex Saffadi, Hopewell Junction (17:08); and Danny Green, Clifton (17:09).
