JACKSON — The organizers of Jackson Day 2014 are making the annual community celebration all about the “Good Old Summertime.”
From 11 a.m. until dusk on Sept. 6, the annual celebration of the municipality will once again take over John F. Johnson Jr. Memorial Park, Cooks Bridge Road and Manhattan Street. Admission is free, and all are welcome.
As the primary sponsor for this year’s festivities, officials with the Jackson Township Clean Communities and Recycling program are asking guests to bring an item that can be recycled. Drop-off spots for cans, bottles and paper products will be placed throughout the park.
Organizers said Jackson Day will feature activities for people of all ages, including free rides, games, a petting zoo and a classic car show, according to a press release.
Live entertainment will include performances by a Mummers-style band called the Top Hats; a British Invasion tribute band; and Weird Science, playing songs of the 1980s.
Vendors will be on-site selling food and other items. Representatives of local nonprofit organizations will offer information about their services and programs. A fireworks display will cap the event.
Jackson Day co-chair Patricia Wood said none of Jackson Day’s activities or costs will be paid for with taxpayer money. She said the event relies solely on donations from individuals and organizations.
“Our benefactors have been extremely generous,” Wood said.
Shuttle buses from Jackson Liberty High School to Johnson Park will operate 1-8:30 p.m.
In preparation for Jackson Day, the dog park near Johnson Park, basketball courts and tennis courts will be closed at 3 p.m. Sept. 5 until the end of Jackson Day, including the rain date of Sept. 7.
Anyone who would like to reserve a spot on the grounds for their business or organization may call Joey Lynn Zapata at 732- 928-1200, ext. 1258 or send an email to [email protected].
