Mrs. Grommell, 83, formerly of Sayreville and Brooklyn, N.Y., died on July 29, 2014, in Wayne, Pa. Born in County Monaghan, Clontibret, Ireland, she was the daughter of the late John and Ann (Connelly) Duffy. Mrs. Grommell was employed as an insurance administrator for MetLife in Manhattan, N.Y., for 15 years. She retired in 1986. Mrs. Grommell was predeceased by her husband, Patrick Grommell, and her children, Michael, Frances and Mary Jane Grommell. She is survived by her children, Thomas Grommell, Helen McGrane and her husband Frank, and Joan Grommell-Pentek; her grandchildren, Kathryn and Keri Pentek and Bobby McGrane; and her sister, Angela Maher. Mrs. Grommell was known for many kindnesses in the years she lived in Sayreville, especially to those at Gillette Manor. Being too impatient to wait for the bus, she would walk miles across town to visit family, go to church and shop; she soon became known to Gillette Manor neighbors as “the woman who walks.” Services were held in Brooklyn, and a memorial will be held in Pennsylvania on Sept. 13.
