JACKSON — Recently, St. Aloysius Church in Jackson was home to 34 heroes and villains as part of the annual summer musical theater camp.
Under the direction of award-winning music teacher and play director Cindy Dwyer, the camp celebrated its fourth year with the largest number of attendees since it began in 2010, according to a press release.
Local children age 6-13 attended the camp and learned how to dance and act. They learned firsthand about what goes into the making of a production.
At the end of the two weeks, there was a final performance that included scenes from “Matilda,” “The Little Mermaid,” “Aladdin,” “Cinderella,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Annie” and “The Lion King” — all featuring heroes and villains of the Broadway musicals, which was the theme of this year’s camp.
The youngsters showed what they had learned by putting on a “wonderful” performance with lots of energy and talent, according to the press release.
During the two weeks, Dwyer, along with Krista Skribner, Shannon Andress and Gianna Limeri, taught the children how to take what they had learned and put it into a show. Each camper received a T-shirt and a DVD of the final performance.
