ROBBINSVILLE: Library sets September programs

ROBBINSVILLE — The local branch of the Mercer County Library System has scheduled adult and children’s programs in September.
Grandparents and grandparents-to-be can bring themselves up-to-date on the latest in baby care when Princeton HealthCare System Community Education and Outreach presents "Grandparenting in the 21st Century" at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9. Topics will include safety considerations, car seat laws and tips, SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) risk reduction, transitioning from parent to grandparent, characteristics of the newborn and the changing birth environment, among others. At the "CarFit Check-Up Event" from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11 trained technicians from the Princeton HealthCare System will help make adjustments to vehicles to provide a better "fit" for drivers. Call 609-259-2150 to register for a 20-minute slot, with the last appointment at 3:10. There are a limited number of appointments available, so call early.
"Strategies for the SAT" at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17 will provide tips on how to raise a score, clarify the upcoming changes in the test and explain the role of the SAT in the college admissions process. This program is for high school students and parents of high school students and is presented by Kaplan Test Prep. "An Afternoon at the Movies" at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18 will feature "Solomon Northup," the story of a free black man from upstate New York who is abducted and sold into slavery starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt and Lupita Nyong’o. Author, photographer, and New Jersey pride advocate Walter Choroszewski will present "Cinema and Television: the New Jersey Connection" at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20. This is a special "New Jersey 350" program honoring the 350th anniversary of the state. During a "Book Talk with MaryAnn Raccosta" at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23 this New Jersey author will discuss her book, "The Survivor, The Hero, & The Angel, A Mother’s Story — One Decade." This true account of one family’s life carries the reader through the 10 years since their two infant sons were diagnosed with serious and rare diseases. Ms. Raccosta’s story will provide insight, hope, and positive inspiration for those struggling with their own lives. Learn how to improve balance and prevent falls with trained facilitators from Princeton HealthCare System at "Be Fall Proof: Get Balanced!" at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25. During "Geeks & Gadgets" from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30 members of the Mercer County Library System’s IT department will answer questions about PCs and tablets, or library services such as eBooks, audio books, or the catalog. Bring electronic devices for troubleshooting, and get consumer tips for purchasing a new computer or device. "Create a…" will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Tuesday in September for children accompanied by an adult. Registration is not required.
Registration for the "Fall Story Time Session" will begin on Monday, Sept. 8. Toddler and Preschool children will enjoy stories, songs, and crafts under the supervision of Youth Services Librarian Michelle Cromwell. Toddler story time is a half-hour program for children, ages 2 and 3, accompanied by an adult, on Tuesdays at 10 a.m., Wednesdays at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., or Thursdays at 10 a.m. Pre-school story time is a half-hour program for children, ages 4 and 5, on Mondays at 2 p.m. or Thursdays at 11 a.m. Classes begin the week of Sept. 15 and will run through the week of Oct. 20.
"Story Time with STEAM" will take place Saturday, Sept. 13 at 10 a.m. (online registration begins Aug. 30) and Saturday, Sept. 27 at 10 a.m. (online registration begins Sept. 13). School-age children will enjoy science experiments and crafts conducted by Girl Scout Cadette Troop 70538 under the supervision of library staff. This program is for children in grades K-3.
"Creation Station" will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20. Children of all ages accompanied by an adult are invited to create a special craft with the materials provided. Please note this is a drop-in program; registration is not required.
"Teen Movie – The Fault in Our Stars" will be shown at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept 24. Online registration begins on Sept. 10.
"The Art of Paper Folding" will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 25. Girl Scout Saradha Miriyala will teach children in grades K-3 different paper folding techniques. Online registration begins on Sept. 11.
"Toddler Tunes" will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 26. This music program is for children of all ages, accompanied by an adult. Online registration begins on Sept. 12.
"Babytime" is for children ages 6 months to 24 months, accompanied by an adult. It will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 30. Online registration begins on Sept. 16.
