SOUTH COUNTY: 8 teachers welcomed to South’s K-12 faculty

Residents greeted eight new teachers — all of whom in attendance — with a spirited round of applause Aug. 28 at the South Hunterdon Regional school board session, after they were introduced by board president Dan Seiter.
The teachers were appointed for the school year, the first for the regional K-12 district.
Six of the eight are full-timers. The two with master’s degrees are Regina Phillips, a sixth grade teacher who will earn $56,735 year, and Julie Berezin, a special education teacher who will earn $54,855. Teachers’ salaries are determined by the years of classroom experience in addition to their most advanced college degree (bachelor, master or doctorate.)
The four fulltime teachers with bachelor’s degrees hired by the board at the Aug. 28 meeting are Peggy Button, music teacher, at $49,800 a year; Stephanie Davis, sixth grade, at $49,800 a year; Evan Staley, sixth grade, at $49,800 a year; and Kristen Yancey, special education, $49,800 a year.
Health and physical education teacher Michele Ryan Smith will work 2/10 of her schedule as a teacher, at $9,060 a year, and 8/10 of it as a teacher’s aide, at $21,068 a year. Ricardo Cordero, also a health and physical education teacher, will work 6/10 of a full time schedule, at $29,880 a year.
The regional district also announced that its website is up and running, as are the websites for the four schools in the district.
All web sites can be reached directly at the URLs listed below or by using the "Select a School" drop-down menu located at the top left of each page. The addresses are www.shrsd.org (for district),
SHRHS – hs.shrsd.org (for high school), lps.shrsd.org for Lambertville school; sbs.shrsd.org (for Stockton) and was.shrsd.org for West Amwell.
The district site will be used to post school board, business office and other information that pertains to the district as a whole including each of our schools.
Each school site will include a For Parents section which will include a Virtual Backpack where the district will post letters and information that traditionally were sent home to parents via paper notices. The Cafeteria/Food Services section, under For Parents, will post menus, price lists and free and reduced lunch program information.
"We will also aim to post school happenings via the News section and please see our Calendars for event information," the spokesperson said.
