SOUTH BRUNSWICK: Police enhance school traffic enforcement

South Brunswick Police have announced that "Operation Safe Schools 2014" will start this week.
The annual program is designed to increase police presence and traffic safety around Township schools.
"Our goal is to assist in the transition for students and parents back to school, as well as remind drivers about school zones," said Chief of Police Raymond Hayducka.
The South Brunswick School District started its school year Thursday with more then 9,500 students expected to return to public and private schools in the township.
The plan places officers at every school in the district at the start and end of the school day, police said.
In addition enhanced traffic enforcement zones will be established around the schools for traffic enforcement.
At any one time, more the a dozen officers will be dedicated to the operation, police said.
"We have had a longstanding partnership with the school district that will continue under Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jerry M. Jellig," Chief Hayducka said. "This year our collaboration has allowed us to continue to enhance school safety. Parents and students may notice an increased deployment of officers to all the district schools throughout the school year. The added officers combined with random patrols stopping at the schools will create another layer to the comprehensive school safety plan."
Chief Hayducka reminded motorists of the changing traffic patterns with schools back in session.
"Motorists need to allot extra time in their morning commute to accommodate the increased bus and pedestrian traffic," He said. "It will take several days for everyone to become familiar with the changes a new school year brings. Officers will be at every location to assist students and monitor traffic."
