Police blotter, week of Aug. 25-31
A resident of West Frech Avenue reported at 3:02 p.m. Aug. 25 that he received a call from someone claiming to be an IRS agent requesting that he send money. He knew it was a scam and did not release any information. It was reported to police as a matter of record.
Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors went off on the second floor of a West Camplain Road residence at 9:58 p.m. Aug. 25. Batteries were changed and the alarms, which were new, continued chirping. The home was evacuated. Readings were negative.
A resident of Boesel Avenue complained to police at 5:21 p.m. Aug. 26 that a group of juveniles were giving his grandchildren a hard time. The problem was resolved before police arrived.
Valerie Cobb, 44, of North 3rd Avenue was arrested Aug. 27 and charged with theft of the juvenile diabetes donation jar containing $200 to $300 from Quick Chek on Brooks Boulevard. She was also charged with obstructing justice by using physical interference when fingerprinting and was charged on a warrant. She was lodged in the Somerset County Jail in default of posting $500 cash bail.
A call came in from South Main Street at 12:06 p.m. Aug. 28 reporting that a Hispanic woman tried to strike another woman and also scratched that person’s husband. The victim was treated by a Main Street doctor. Lolita Padro, 37, of South Main Street, was taken into custody and charged with two counts of simple assault and obstruction. Bail was set at $2,500. She was also charged with assaulting a patrolman. Bail for this charge was $2,500. She was taken to the Somerset County Jail in default of bail.
A Fucillo Street woman reported on Aug. 28 that there were unauthorized charges on her American Express card.
A North 21st Avenue woman filed a second report on Aug. 28 that a company is harassing her and her daughter, attempting to extort money from them. She believes it is a phone scam. She first filed a complaint with police about a month and a half ago.
A woman living on South 17th Avenue reported at 4:35 p.m. Aug. 28 that her 2005 silver Chevrolet Cobalt four-door, valued at $7,995, was stolen. It was last seen on July 30 on the street. It was reported stolen to the National Crime Information Center.
Vincent Tenisci, 21, of Green Street, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance at 9:29 p.m. Friday. Police noticed him walking on the tracks in the area of South Street and South 8th Avenue. During an interview, he admitted to being in possession of a small amount of marijuana, police said. He was later released.
Bruce Phillips, 49, of South Main Street was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct at 10:44 p.m. Friday. Police said he was fighting on the sidewalk at 36 S. Main St. and tried to enter his residence to obtain a weapon.
A man living on North 6th Avenue reported on Sunday that sometime between 9 p.m. Saturday and 6 a.m. Sunday the rear driver’s side tire of his 2004 silver Buick was slashed while parked on the road. The estimated repair cost is $80.
A Hillsborough woman reported on Sunday that her black Volkswagen Jetta was keyed between 8 p.m. Saturday and midnight while it was parked on South 19th Avenue. Police confirmed a large scratch running from the driver’s door to the rear of the vehicle. The estimated repair cost is $500.
