BORDENTOWN TOWNSHIP — The Police Department is urging its residents to be more alert and report all suspicious activity after a series of burglary and theft incidents which have occurred to sheds and vehicles in its northern section that borders Hamilton Township.
The various incidents have taken place in the overnight hours and police believe that they are being committed by the same individual or group of people.
Any suspicious activity should be reported. A description of suspicious persons — their sex, race, height, weight, hair color and clothing — as well as any license plate numbers, descriptions of vehicles and in which direction the person is headed are helpful to the police.
Residents are also encouraged to secure their doors, windows, vehicles and sheds and if possible increase the use of exterior lighting and motion detectors.
The related incidents currently being investigated are as follows:
On July 27 a resident of Hogback Road reported a burglary that occurred to their detached garage in which four ATV’s were stolen. Police recovered one ATV following a brief pursuit but the suspects were able to escape with the other three vehicles. The only suspect description available at this time is that they appeared to be four white men.
On Aug. 13 a resident of Highbridge Road reported that someone had attempted to forcibly enter his shed overnight and caused damage to its door. No entry was made and nothing was stolen in this incident, police said.
On Aug. 28 a resident of Highbridge Road reported that someone entered several sheds on their property and stole a Honda dirt bike along with tools and landscaping equipment. It appears that the suspects then loaded these items into the homeowner’s Ford F250 pickup truck which they then stole from the home’s driveway.
A Jeep Grand Cherokee stolen from Overlook Avenue in Hamilton Township was located abandoned in the woods near the township victim’s residence and police believe that the suspects likely drove the stolen Jeep to the victim’s residence and abandoned it when they stole his truck.
Also on Aug. 28 a resident of Hogback Road reported an overnight theft to their shed in which various tools, equipment and a green go-kart were stolen.
On Sept. 2 a business located on Route 130 reported to police that one of the company vans was burglarized overnight and various tools and equipment were stolen. A sound system was additionally found to have been stolen from a garage located on the property during this investigation.
Also on Sept. 2 a resident of Groveville Road reported the overnight theft of a 4-by-8-foot flatbed trailer from his property.
Police have increased patrols in this area but again encourage residents to call 911 if they see anything suspicious.
Residents can call the Police Department at (609) 298-4300.
