Sat., Sept. 13
Flea market & craft show: Manville First Aid & Rescue Squad Auxiliary’s planned indoor/outdoor flea market and craft show in the VFW hall, 600 Washington Ave. has been canceled.
Fri., Sept. 19
Candidates event: The Manville Republican Club will hold a meet-and-greet with its candidates for Borough Council from 7 to 10 p.m. at the American Legion post at 429 S Main St. Share refreshments and meet the candidates, Dayna Camacho and Steve Szabo.
Memorial service: VFW Post 2290 and its ladies auxiliary will host the annual prisoner of war/missing in action service at 7 p.m. at the post, 600 Washington Ave. The public is encouraged to come out and remember those who have gone to war and not yet returned.

Oktoberfest: Christ the Redeemer Parish will hold its Oktoberfest on Friday,and Saturday, South 2nd Avenue and Filak Street will be closed for the event.
Sat., Sept. 20
Community Day: The borough’s annual celebration will be held in Lost Valley. The rain date is Sunday, Sept. 21. Details will be announced but volunteers are needed. Call the Recreation department at 908-725-9478, ext. 121, or email [email protected].
Tues., Sept. 30
Meeting date moved: The Millstone-Raritan Rivers Flood Control Commission meeting originally scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 24, has been rescheduled to 7 p.m. in Manville Borough Hall.
Fri., Oct. 3
Basket auction: St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, 1900 Brooks Blvd., will present an auction with more than 100 gift certificates and prizes, including flat-screen TV, outdoor grill, Kitchen Aid mixer, iPad, household items, appliances, theme baskets and a 50/50. Doors open at 5 p.m. Auction begins at 7. Tickets at $10 includes one sheet of tickets, desserts, coffee and tea. Stuffed cabbage, kielbasa and sauerkraut sandwiches, meatball sandwiches, hotdogs, hamburgers, soda and water can be purchased. Slavic dinner: St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church holds monthly dinner, 4 to 7 p.m., St. Mary Parish Center, 1900 Brooks Blvd. $13 for adults (ages 9 and up) and $5 for children (8 and under). All-you-can-eat pirohi, stuffed cabbage, kielbasa and sauerkraut, mashed potatoes. A surprise entrée will be prepared by St. Mary’s chef John Pagano. Orders to go available. Basket Bingo: The Manville North End Volunteer Fire Company No. 3 and Ladies Auxilliary will hold their annual event at the firehouse at the corner of North 8th Avenue and Louis Street. Vendor fair: The Millstone Valley Columbiettes host their 4th annual vendor fair at 6:30 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 34 Yorktown Road, Hillsborough. A variety of vendors will have cash-and-carry items. Admission to the fair is free. Begin holiday shopping while supporting the charitable works of the Columbiettes.

Foodfest: Samplings from menus of local restaurants to benefit Manville First Aid & Rescue Squad. 5:30 p.m. at VFW hall , 600 Washington Ave. Tickets $25 (limited number of tickets sold at door). Sponsored by the squad auxiliary to raise funds to replace and buy equipment for the squad. For tickets, call 908-722-5620.

Recreation office hours: Monday, noon to 7 p.m.; Tuesday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Wednesday, noon to 5 p.m., and Thursday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed Friday. The recreation information line is 908-725-9478, ext. 119.
