MILLSTONE — The Standardbred Retirement Foundation (SRF) is a nonprofit organization created to care for, rehabilitate, and secure lifetime adoption for retired racehorses.
Currently, it provides full care for 180 to 190 horses daily. Many are never adopted due to physical condition or age and remain under SRF’s care for life. Its mission is to provide the adoption and rescue services necessary to ensure that these noble animals are retired with the dignity they deserve, and with the intent of finding them permanent loving homes. SRF is commemorating its 25th year in operation with 2,600 adoptions to date.
But SRF could not fulfill its mission without the kindness and generosity of its supporters. Its success has relied on donations, sponsorships, fundraising events, and volunteers. There are many ways you can help as a volunteer.
Assistance is needed with administrative tasks, mailings, fundraising and special events, etc. Visit the SRF website at www.AdoptaHorse.com for information on upcoming events.
Riding volunteers must be an intermediate rider over the age of 18 and able to tack and ride without having to be instructed once given a list of horses to ride. SRF is not a learn-to-ride facility. All riding volunteers ride at their own risk and must sign a waiver. An appointment with SRF’s trainer is necessary for a quick riding evaluation before exercising horses is permitted. Please email [email protected] to schedule an evaluation.
SRF also seeks grooming, barn and farm help. Experience with horses is preferred, but all help is welcome. Email SRF’s trainer at [email protected] to schedule an appointment. Grooming volunteers must be over the age of 18 and have good horsemanship and horse safety skills, with little or no instruction. All barn/farm volunteers must sign a waiver (undersigned by an adult if under 18 years of age).
