SHRHS Cross country also organizing fundraiser

As South Hunterdon Regional High School is working to honor its past athletes, an effort is also underway to help the school’s cross country and track teams.
The school recently announced the creation of its athletic Eagle Hall of Fame. The project was undertaken by a Hall of Fame Committee of school and community leaders. The first group of inductees into the Eagle Hall of Fame will be announced during the first home football game of the season on Sept. 19. The inductees will be honored at a formal dinner in late winter or early spring.
In addition, the area just outside the high school gymnasium has been made into a display area to honor Hall of Fame inductees and current sports teams. The Hall of Fame Committee is selling "gift tiles" that will surround a trophy case.
Inquiries about the tiles can be made to Jason Miller, the school’s athletic director, at 609-397-2652 or [email protected].
The tiles cost $60 and have room for three lines of text, with up to 20 characters per line. To order, go to www.formstack.com/forms/FRB-southhunterdon
Mr. Miller hailed the coming of the Hall of Fame and the tiles project.
"When I first started my teaching and coaching career here, I used to hear all the stories of the great players and coaches who played and coached here long before my start as a teacher and coach," Mr. Miller said. "It always sort of bothered me that we did not recognize those people in a way that I, along with many others, felt they deserved. The Hall of Fame and gift tiles will give them that recognition."
Also underway in the high school community is a fundraiser for a tent for the school runners.
"One of the difficult jobs for me as a coach in a small high school is raising money for items that our athletics budget just cannot afford," cross country coach Scott Ward said.
"Our track and field team will enter its fourth season next year and our participation is still growing," he said. "When we try to fit 20-plus kids under a 10-by-10-foot pop-up tent, we just don’t fit. Keeping them in the shade at our cross country and track and field invitationals is a tough event in itself. We are asking for help in funding an E-Z Up tent that will fit our entire team in the shade and out of the elements for next season."
