WEST AMWELL: Police investigate three cases of people with pot in parks

West Amwell police reported three incidents of finding young adults allegedly with marijuana in park areas.
Detective Edward Skillman was patrolling the area of the George Washington Overlook Park on Aug. 14, at about 11 p.m. when he came upon a parked vehicle and several individuals in the park after hours. After an investigation, the driver, Mohamed Selim, 23, from Pennington, was arrested for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. After processing Mr. Selim was released with a court date.
On Aug. 16, at about 9:24 p.m. Patrolman Jonathan Sellner was patrolling in the area of Hewitt Park on Hewitt Road. As Patrolman Sellner checked the park he found several juveniles in a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, a 17-year-old male from New Hope, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Patrolman Sellner was patrolling in the area of the George Washington Overlook Park on Aug. 20, at about 8:50 p.m. when he found an unoccupied vehicle in the parking lot after hours, police said.
The patrolman located the occupants of the vehicle and subsequently arrested Brooke Moore, a 19-year-old female from Flemington, and Stephen Davies, 21, from Ringoes, for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
All those who were charged in the three incidents were released with dates to come to municipal court.
In other incidents reported by police:
— Detective Edward Skillman stopped a tractor-trailer on Route 31 driven by Hershel Deshields, 67, from Millville, for an alleged motor vehicle violation on Aug. 23 at about 12:30 a.m. A computer check showed that Mr. Deshields had a pending traffic warrant from Vineland Municipal Court for $561. Mr. Deshields was arrested, processed and released with a court date after posting bail.
— On Aug. 24, at about 12:05 a.m. Detective Skillman stopped a vehicle on Route 202 for an alleged motor vehicle violation. A computer check showed that Rami Ibrahim, 32, from Philadelphia faced a pending traffic warrant from Mount Laurel for $280 and one from Chesterfield for $114. Mr. Ibrahim was arrested, processed and released after posting bail.
— A Sergeantsville driver was hurt in a single-vehicle motor vehicle accident on Mt. Airy-Harbourton Road on Aug. 27 at about 4:38 p.m. The driver, Richard Trapanese, 63, was treated at the scene for minor injuries. As a result of the investigation by Sgt. Timothy Vanselous, Mr. Trapanese was ticketed for driving while under the influence. He was also issued summonses for reckless driving and failing to stay in his lane. He was released pending a court date.
— On Aug. 29, at about 11:18 p.m. Patrolman Jonathan Sellner stopped a vehicle driven by Rummell Flim, 26, from Ewing, for a motor vehicle violation. A computer check showed Mr. Flim had a pending traffic warrant from Trenton Municipal Court for $89. Mr. Flim was arrested, processed and released after posting bail.
— On Aug. 30, at about 10:55 p.m. Patrolman Sellner stopped a vehicle driven by Frank Ortalano Jr., 41, from Staten Island, N.Y., for a motor vehicle violation on Route 179. A computer check showed Mr. Ortalano had a pending traffic warrant from Pohatcong Municipal Court for $120. Mr. Ortalano was arrested, processed, and released after posting bail.
