Bucknell University freshman defensive end Doug Whitlock was named the Corvias Patriot League Rookie of the Week for the week ending on Sept. 6.
Whitlock had two quarterback sacks and three tackles in sparking a Bucknell defense that shut out Marist College in the 22-0 win. The 6-foot-2, 250-pounder has five tackles and two sacks through the first two games of his college career.
Bucknell is off to a 2-0 start.
Whitlock was a two-sport standout at Red Bank Catholic High School. He was a three-year starter on the football team and a four-year starter in lacrosse. His teams won division titles in both sports.
Another Shore area product, Allentown High School graduate Ross Scheuerman, earned Special Teams Player of the Week Honorable Mention. The Lafayette College tailback/ return specialist returned a touchdown 99 yards for a score in Lafayette’s 27-14 loss to Sacred Heart University in its season-opener.
Scheuerman is already a three-time All- Patriot League selection.
