HILLSBOROUGH: Local Republicans kick off their re-election campaign

Hold picnic at Assemblyman Ciattarelli’s home

More than 200 Hillsborough residents attended Mayor Doug Tomson and Committeewoman Gloria McCauley’s re-election kick-off event Friday night at the home of Assemblyman Jack and Melinda Ciattarelli. Attendees enjoyed food, drink and discussions about Hillsborough’s future.
"It’s always great to see the backing we have from township residents, regardless of political party," Mayor Doug Tomson said. "The support we received tonight is a clear indication that our township is heading in the right direction."
Mayor Tomson and Committeewoman McCauley addressed the crowd on a wide range of issues, including the fact that the 2014 municipal budget spends less than the 2008 budget.
Standards and Poor’s ratings service upgraded our credit rating to AA+ and the township’s fulltime workforce has been reduced by 13 percent, said the mayor.
"We are not about talk. We are about action" Ms. McCauley added, "Doug and I are running on our records, which speak for themselves. There is a reason we were named number 16 on Money Magazine’s prestigious list of best places to live in America and Top Ten Places to Live in New Jersey by NJ Monthly — strong leadership."
Franklin Mayor Brian Levine, recently selected candidate to replace Bob Zaborowski on the Republican ticket for Somerset County freeholder, spoke at the event.
"I am honored to join Doug and Gloria on the ballot this year," he said. "As a CPA by trade, I pledge to bring a strong fiscal voice to the freeholder board."
The host, Assemblyman Ciattarelli, said, "Doug and Gloria are so very competent and dedicated. They’re proven leaders that exemplify everything that is great about Hillsborough. That’s why they deserve to be re-elected."
Other elected officials who attended were Assemblywoman Donna Simon; freeholders Zaborowski, Mark Caliguire and Pat Walsh; and townshipo committeemen Greg Burchette, Carl Suraci and Frank DelCore.
Also last week, Congressman Lance attended the Hillsborough Republican Club meeting to discuss topics ranging from national debt to the recent crisis in the Middle East.
