MANVILLE: Police get call about lizard in a tree

Police blotter, Sept. 1-7

Manny Andrade of Washington Avenue called police to report a lizard was in a tree in his backyard at 2:24 p.m. on Sept. 1. Police responded to the residence and found a large reptile there. Animal control and the Manville Fire Department removed the reptile and returned it to its owner on West Camplain Road.
— A blue Saturn was egged in the driveway of a Sidorske Avenue home during the evening hours of Aug. 31 or early morning of Sept. 1. There was no damage to the vehicle.
— Police checked on an SUV parked at Knopf Street and North 6th Avenue at 3:59 a.m. on Sept. 3 because a man appeared to be sleeping on the steering wheel. Patrol arrested Elaine Tublin, 49, of Somerset, on a pending $300 traffic warrant from Hillsborough. The Hillsborough Police Department took custody of her.
— A 2000 Chrysler Cirrus, valued at $2,000, was reported stolen from Adesa Auto Auction on North Main Street at 11 a.m. on Sept. 3. The car was last seen in April. The vehicle was entered into the National Crime Information Center database.
— Kevin Hong, 20, of Bridgewater was arrested and charged with shoplifting $89.80 worth of electronics from Walmart at 5:08 p.m. on Sept. 3. He was processed and released.
— An 18-year-old Manville man said at 5:48 p.m. on Sept. 3 that he was punched in the face by another 18-year-old man, also of Manville, on South 6th Avenue after a motor vehicle crash. There were no visible signs of injury. Police reviewed the Camplain Liquors video surveillance tape and no assault was seen. Both parties were advised to sign their own complaints.
— Anny S. Quesada, 20, of Somerville was arrested and charged with simple assault after allegedly assaulting another woman, 31, of Hillsborough, after a motor vehicle crash in the McDonald’s parking lot on North Main Street on Sept. 4. She was released on her own recognizance.
— Darra Chavis, 29, of Plainfield, was arrested and charged with driving while suspended and for an outstanding traffic warrant out of Perth Amboy at 10:44 p.m. on Sept. 4. She was processed and released after posting $165 cash bail.
— A Brooks Boulevard woman told police on Friday she had received a telephone call from a man who identified himself as an IRS agent. He said she owed $4,377 in back taxes and instructed her to pay this amount immediately or police would respond and arrest her. Police advised this was a scam and she should not send any money.
— A group of drunken homeless men were causing a ruckus in the parking lot of Drewby’s Bar & Grill on South Main St. at 10:04 p.m. on Saturday. Police responded. John DiGestifano, homeless, was taken to Robert Wood Johnson Somerset Medical Center.
— A 2008 blue Nissan Rogue was keyed overnight on Sunday while parked on North 13th Avenue.
— Spencer McLeish, 26, of Somerville, was arrested and charged with shoplifting $83.78 worth of goods from Walmart on Sunday. He was released with a pending court date.
Sthoner Barrantes, 28, of Somerville, was arrested and charged with criminal mischief and driving under the influence/driving while intoxicated at 9:05 p.m. on Sunday. Police said he entered an unlocked vehicle he believed to be his own. When he tried to place the key in the ignition, it would not fit. He allegedly broke the turn signal arm, steering wheel tilt and gear shift.
