On Sunday, September 21, 2014, Daniel C. Kurtzer, one of the nation’s most respected specialists on Middle East policy and formerly U.S. ambassador to Israel and to Egypt, will speak on the occasion of the International Day of Peace about the winds of war in the Middle East that are again engulfing the United States.
The International Day of Peace is an annual observance worldwide established by resolution of the UN General Assembly in 1981. The Princeton-Trenton Area chapter of the United Nations Association of the USA (UNA-USA) has organized the central New Jersey commemoration, to be held at the Universalist Unitarian Congregation of Princeton.
Ambassador Kurtzer, currently a lecturer and the S. Daniel Abraham professor in Middle Easter policy at Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, has titled his 2 p.m. talk, “Shifting Sands Across the Middle East: War, Peace, and Political Upheaval.”
“Ambassador Kurtzer’s sober reflections will spark lively discussion after a summer of continuing civil war in Syria, the conquest by a medieval-minded extremist group of much of Iraq, and yet another bloody war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza,” said John Vincent, chapter president.
In addition to the Princeton-Trenton Area UNA-USA chapter and the Universalist Unitarian Congregation, co-sponsoring organizations include the Coalition for Peace Action and the Central New Jersey chapter of UNA-USA.
The conversation with Ambassador Kurtzer will take place in Channing Hall at the Universalist Unitarian Congregation at 50 Cherry Hill Road in Princeton from 2 till 3:00 p.m. Following conclusion of the program, which is free and open to the public, refreshments will be available.
