Nadia Emery
Thomas Stone Heritage Academy is proud to announce that Nathaniel Emery was named Semifinalist in the National Merit Scholarship program. Per the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, "about 1.4 million juniors in the more than 22,000 high schools entered the 2015 national merit scholarship program by taking the 2013 preliminary SAT/national merit scholarship qualifying test (PSAT/NMSQT(R)), which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide pool of semi finalists, representing less than 1% of US high school seniors, includes the highest scoring entrants in each state." Nathaniel was one of approximately 16,000 students notified that he has qualified as a semifinalist. He will now compete to advance to Finalist standing in the competition. This is Thomas Stone Academy’s second student in as many years earning this distinction.
A senior from New Jersey, Nathan Emery also received the College Board AP Scholar with Honor Award based on his outstanding performance on the 2013 and 2014 Advanced Placement Exams. One of Nathaniel’s interests outside of school is Model UN, having attended conferences hosted by Princeton University, University of Pennyslvania and Georgetown University. On September 20, he will lead his club, the American Homeschool Model UN Club, in their second annual Model UN conference in Princeton, NJ. He hopes this conference will continue to grow an interest in the homeschooling community about global issues and how nations can work together to create solutions. Nathaniel also spends his volunteer time working with special needs children, fundraising for UNICEF, helping other students as a teaching assistant in AP Calculus BC, AP US History and AP English Language and co-leading gluten-free food drives and raising awareness about the need for gluten-free products in food banks. He hopes to study International Relations, Mathematics, Russian and Japanese in college.
