Letter to the editor
To the editor:
Last week, communities across the nation held services to honor the memory of the innocent victims who died on Sept. 11, 2001.
Our Hillsborough community is indeed fortunate to have two 9/11 memorial gardens and annual memorial services, as provided by Volunteer Fire Company No. 2 (located on Route 206) and Fire Company No. 3 (located on Woods Road).
Always joining the annual memorial services are Hillsborough Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 (Flagtown), Neshanic Volunteer Fire Company, Hillsborough Rescue Squad, Hillsborough Township Police Department and the Hillsborough Bureau of Fire Safety.
Both memorial services — which include reading the names of all first responders who lost their lives 13 years ago — were solemn, respectful, poignant, and beautiful.
Although the anniversary of 9/11 is filled with many emotions, it should not be lost on any of us that volunteer fire companies 2 and 3 see to it that our community honors the memory of those who lost their lives on 9/11.
Thank you to all volunteers who organized these important memorial services and all Hillsborough residents who attended.
As long as we have such dedicated members of our community, I, as mayor, can proudly say that Hillsborough is a community that will never forget.
Mayor Douglas Tomson
On behalf of the Hillsborough
Township Committee
