MANVILLE: Octoberfest celebrates the German tradition

By Mary Ellen Day, Special Writer
The calendar may still say September, but this weekend an Oktoberfest in Manville will celebrate the German tradition.
It will be held at Sacred Heart Church grounds on Friday and Saturday from 6-10 p.m.
The event is sponsored by Christ the Redeemer Church and school parents, with proceeds going to Christ the King School.
"It is a community event that will hopefully bring a lot of people who love German food and drink German beer," said Pastor Stanislaw Slaby.
There will be a 50/50 along with a beer garden and entertainment. German music will be played by DJ Chris Gosk. There will be German and Polish beer offered.
Pastor Slaby said schnitzel, German potato salad, bratwurst, Bavarian wurst and the church’s famous potato pancakes will be served. A German platter will cost $6 and a child’s platter $4. Potato pancakes are $1 each. Desserts and cakes will go for $2 and the beer is $4 for 16-ounce cup.
"Hopefully this will be a great weekend that people can socialize and have a good time. It will be fun for everyone and all is invited," said Pastor Slaby.
