By Jennifer Kohlhepp, Staff Writer
The man who allegedly robbed the TD Bank around 11:30 a.m. Monday has been caught, according to police.
Police arrested Wesley A. Gugliuzza, 28, in Old Bridge without incident Sept. 16 after receiving an anonymous tip about his whereabouts.
He has been charged with first-degree robbery, third-degree terroristic threats and fourth-degree tampering with evidence after allegedly taking an undisclosed amount of cash from the bank, according to Princeton Police Sgt. Steve Riccitello.
A portion of the proceeds from the robbery were recovered, police said.
He is being held in the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick on unrelated charges out of that county.
Bail was set at $300,000 on the charges out of Princeton. His case will be handled by the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office, according to Sgt. Riccitello.
Mr. Gugliuzza, who has no known address, allegedly walked into the bank at the corner of Route 206 and Cherry Valley Road alone, approached a bank teller, passed a note indicating he was armed, and demanded cash, according to police.
The teller handed him cash in an envelope and he left the bank on foot.
Bank employees did not see a weapon and no one was injured.
Princeton police patrols searched the surrounding area for the suspect but did not locate him. The Mercer County Sheriff Department aided the search with a tracking dog to no avail.
As police scoured the area for the suspect, Hopewell Elementary School initiated a building freeze around 3 p.m. Students remained in their classrooms and were prohibited from going outside as a precautionary measure.
Detective Sgt. Christopher Quaste and Detective Adam Basatemur led the investigation with Old Bridge police.
The investigation is ongoing to see if there is anyone else connected to the bank robbery, according to police.
